Alela edh primer10/17/2023 ![]() Not much extra to say on those other than they're good as usual. ![]() Oh, and there are some sac outlets, removal, and control cards. It's kind of a slow card, but extremely grindy, resilient, and powerful if comboing or drawing tons isn't quite available.\ If my hand sucks, I know that on Turn 5 I can make sure I can draw 2 extra cards per cycle and get an illusion or two with Azami, or I can grab ] for a Sol Ring, Skullclamp, Witch's Oven, or Soul-Guide Lantern. What I love about the wizard package is that I can run ] to tutor any of a number of good wizards. That's ], blue's monster of an ongoing cyclonic rift effect, and ], which is another anytime draw engine and MoM combo piece. I run ] to turn all my other shit into illusions, and I run some Wizard interactions that are good enough with Minn alone, but even better with random wizards floating around the deck or with the Nexus. I do run some tribal cards because they're specifically good, however. The only other big illusions come from Mordenkainen, those giant dogs are in fact illusions and can easily put into play any permanent in the deck. I've been going back and forth on the ] combo. I'm waffling on whether or not I want to keep ], and I don't currently have ], but I would barely consider others unless it's for a specific trick. Nobody blocks them because they know I'll put things into play. I'm perfectly happy with my handful of 4/1ish tokens, split on offense and defense, and my full grip of counters and excess draw engines. Illusions! No, I barely run any fuckin illusions. On a budget, I'd add ], ], and ], but they didn't make my current build's final cut. I don't care if a half these cards are "boring" "staples", drawing cards is actually quite fun. ![]() Rhystic Study, Fish stick, blah blah blah. ] is another obvious powerhouse, and I wouldn't leave home without it. ![]() I consider these 2 cards to be the best cards in the deck because they allow all our other engines to generate tokens and draw 2 cards extremely easily on other turns, as well as just churning through our deck like a maniac. ] gives a loot on each turn, so we can stack it with something for a token, such as ] or a looter, or even better, ] or ]. ] draws cards and is a win con in itself with GIANT dogs. ] gives an illusion every turn, and it's rare we don't win if one survives a round. The second thing is card draw engines, which is actually just pretty obvious and expensive. It also gives us velocity through our deck, making it easier to hit our land drops and find our card advantage engines (and discard redundant looters). This is the best T2 play we can make, before playing Minn on turn 3 and guaranteeing an illusion token on all of our turns. ![]() I have a few extras on the side if I want more (like smugglers copter), but right now I'm running these 6. ], ], merfolk looter, looter il-kor, ], and wharf infiltrator. This is seriously underrated and I expect it to be one of the best decisions a minn deck can make. The first important thing I'm doing is running a bunch of 2 mana looters. My illusion tokens barely get blocked and barely get chipped into because my opponents know that they'll be giving me free land drops from my giant hand, and that's just no good. The thing I love about Minn is that it rewards your blue draw engine with blue ramp and boardstate. I wouldn't say it's objectively the best with only "one" combo in the deck being ] + things, and it's only slightly tutorable, but it's an absolute machine with high resiliency. Minn has quickly risen to be one of the strongest decks in playstyle that I've ever built. While I did buy a pile of mediocre illusions upon deckbuilding, those cards never made it into the list. I've been seeing a fair amount of Minn floating around this sub and on EDHREC and I feel like people are focusing far too much on being Illusion tribal and not enough on being card draw tribal. I wrote up a big blue post shortly after ] came out detailing all my favorite blue decks, and since then I've been focusing very heavily on Minn, so I have much more practice on her. ![]()
